Vbeam Pro

Pulsed dye laser, 595 nm and 1064 nm

Vbeam Pro is the current generation of the gold-standard vascular laser. Its 595 nm wavelength is absorbed preferentially by the hemoglobin in blood vessels, allowing it to target redness and visible vessels while largely sparing the surrounding skin. A second 1064 nm wavelength reaches deeper vessels, including blue veins that are less responsive to 595 nm.

What it treats

Is this for you?

  • Rosacea and facial flushing
  • Broken capillaries and spider veins
  • Cherry angiomas and venous lakes
  • Port wine stains
  • Red, raised and keloid scars
  • Inflammatory acne
  • Warts
  • Deep blue veins around the eyes

How it works

What is actually happening.

Hemoglobin, the red pigment in blood, absorbs yellow light at 595 nm far more than skin does. Each pulse heats the blood inside a target vessel just enough to seal it, while a burst of cryogen cooling immediately beforehand protects the skin. The sealed vessel is cleared by the body over the following weeks. The 1064 nm wavelength does the same for larger, deeper, bluer vessels.

Settings are chosen with you. Gentle settings clear redness with a few hours of pinkness. Stronger, purpuric settings bruise for several days but clear stubborn vessels faster. Dr. Nawas explains the trade-off before every session.

Your visit

What the appointment is like.

1

Assess

Dr. Nawas examines the vessels and redness, photographs you, and agrees the settings and whether to accept bruising.

2

Protect

Eye shields on. Numbing is rarely needed.

3

Treat

Each pulse feels like the snap of a rubber band with a puff of cold. A full face takes 15 to 30 minutes.

4

Repeat

Some vessels clear in a single session. Many conditions, rosacea among them, respond best to a series of sessions about four weeks apart, with occasional maintenance as new redness develops.

Before and after your appointment

Simple preparation, simple recovery.

Before

  • Avoid sun exposure and self-tanner on the treatment area for four weeks beforehand.
  • Tell Dr. Nawas about photosensitizing medications or a history of seizures.
  • Arrive with clean skin, without makeup or lotion on the treatment area.

Afterward

  • Redness and mild swelling are common for several hours; cool compresses and sleeping with your head elevated can help.
  • With stronger settings, bruising may last about 5 to 10 days. Makeup can usually be applied after 24 hours if the skin is intact.
  • Use gentle skincare, and avoid retinoids and exfoliating acids for about five days.
  • Protect the treated area carefully from the sun with daily broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, reapplication outdoors and a hat when possible.

Good to know

Questions patients ask.

Why a pulsed dye laser rather than IPL?

IPL is a broad flash of many wavelengths. The Vbeam delivers one wavelength chosen for hemoglobin, with cooling before every pulse, so it treats vessels more precisely with less risk to the surrounding skin, and the 1064 nm option extends that safety to deeper skin tones.

Will the redness come back?

Treated vessels are gone. Rosacea is a condition, so new vessels can form over time; most patients maintain with a session every year or so.

Does it work on darker skin?

Carefully, with adjusted settings. The 1064 nm wavelength is safer for deeper skin tones, and Dr. Nawas will advise honestly.

Next step

Ready when you are.

Redness, flushing and broken vessels, cleared with the gold-standard vascular laser.

New to ZN Dermatology? Choose a consultation appointment: the settings depend on the vessels themselves and on whether you can accept a few days of bruising for a faster result. Treatment can usually be done at the same visit.
