How it works
What is actually happening.
Every time you frown or squint, a small muscle pulls the skin above it into a fold. Repeated over decades, that fold becomes a line that stays when your face is at rest. Botulinum toxin blocks the signal a nerve uses to tell the muscle to contract. The muscle relaxes, the skin stops creasing, and the line has a chance to soften. The effect stays in the treated muscle and wears off gradually, which is why treatment is repeated.

What the appointment is like.

Dr. Nawas watches you frown, raise your brows and smile, then marks each injection point and tells you the dose in units.
Treat
A very fine needle delivers 8 to 20 tiny injections over about five minutes. Each feels like a quick pinch.
Leave
Small bumps fade within 20 to 30 minutes. Most patients go straight back to work; makeup the next morning.
Check
Results are assessed at two weeks, when the effect is complete, and small adjustments are made then.
Before and after your appointment
Simple preparation, simple recovery.
Before
- Tell Dr. Nawas if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a neuromuscular condition, or have reacted to a neurotoxin before.
- To reduce bruising, avoid ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E and similar over-the-counter products for 5 to 7 days beforehand. Do not stop aspirin or any other prescribed medication.
- Skip alcohol the night before and arrive with a clean face.
- Book at least two weeks before a wedding, photographs or travel.
Afterward
- Stay upright for four hours: no lying down, bending over or napping.
- For 24 hours, do not rub or press the treated areas, and skip exercise, saunas and tight hats.
- Nothing happens for the first three days. Judge the result at day 14, not day 5.
- Dr. Nawas checks in by text on day three; message her through the portal any time.

Neurotoxin treatments are $16 per unit. Most treatments range from approximately $500 to $1,400, depending on the areas treated and the amount needed to achieve your goals.

Will I look frozen?
The goal is to soften unwanted lines while preserving natural expression. Dr. Nawas adjusts the dose and placement to your facial movement and your preferences.
Botox, Dysport or Daxxify: which is best?
There isn't one best option for everyone. Each works a little differently, and Dr. Nawas recommends the product based on your anatomy, treatment goals, prior experience and how long you want the results to last.
What happens if I stop?
The effects gradually wear off over about three to four months, and muscle movement returns. Your lines will slowly return toward their pretreatment appearance.
