Insurance, prescriptions and paying for your visit.

We are not in any insurance network. No insurance plan covers cosmetic care, whichever doctor provides it, and staying independent lets Dr. Nawas give each visit the time it needs and recommend treatments on medical grounds alone. For most visits, paying is simple: one clear price, confirmed before treatment and paid at your visit, with no bill arriving later. If you have Medicare, we file your claim; the Medicare card below explains what you pay.

Your visit

Three kinds of care. Find yours.

Each card says what happens with insurance and what you pay at your visit.

Medical care, with private insurance

Plans such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare and Cigna. Melasma, rosacea, skin checks, alopecia, biopsies, excisions.

Insurance
Self-pay. We are out of network with every commercial plan, so we give you a superbill to send to your plan for possible out-of-network reimbursement.
You pay
Our published price at your visit. A new-patient consultation is $250.
Good to know
PPO and POS plans usually reimburse part of out-of-network care; HMO and EPO plans usually do not. HSA and FSA cards work.

Medical care, with Medicare

The same medical visits, for patients with any Medicare plan, including Medicare Advantage plans from any insurer. What happens depends on which plan you have.

Original Medicare
Accepted. We file the claim for you. You pay our Medicare rate at your visit, an amount Medicare sets, and Medicare sends its share directly to you.
Medicare Advantage PPO
We are out of network, but most PPO plans cover out-of-network care. When your plan covers the visit, we file the claim and you pay only your plan's share at the visit: your deductible, copay or coinsurance.
Medicare Advantage HMO
We are out of network, and most HMO plans do not cover non-emergency care outside their network unless they approve it first. If your plan covers the visit, you pay only your plan's share; if not, you pay our published price. Call the number on your card before you book.

Each procedure page shows a price estimate, and Dr. Nawas or our staff will confirm your cost before treatment. For any medical visit, if a biopsy is sent to the laboratory, the lab bills separately for its reading. If you are paying for your care yourself, federal law entitles you to a written Good Faith Estimate of what it will cost.

Step by step

How paying works.

  1. Before your visit

Each procedure page shows a price estimate. To confirm the cost of your treatment, contact us and we will provide a treatment estimate. Prefer to pay over time? Apply with Cherry in about a minute.

  2. At your visit

Pay by card, by HSA or FSA card for medical care or with your Cherry plan. For self-pay visits that is the entire bill. If a Medicare Advantage plan covers your visit, you pay only your plan's share and we bill the plan for the rest.

  3. After your visit

Had a medical visit? Ask for your superbill at checkout or through the patient portal (practice code VI49); if you have Medicare, we file the claim for you. Need a prescription? It goes to your pharmacy with a GoodRx coupon attached.

Superbills

Get reimbursed by your insurance plan.

If you have private insurance rather than Medicare, this is how your medical visit gets reimbursed. A superbill is an itemized receipt written in the codes insurers use, and we provide one for every medical and surgical visit. Submit it in your plan's app or member website under "Submit a claim", ideally within 30 days, and your plan reimburses you its share of the allowed amount once your out-of-network deductible is met. Most plans answer within two to six weeks.

Most of our patients have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas or Aetna, and both accept claims online. We cannot guarantee what a plan will pay; superbills are provided as a courtesy.

Prescriptions

Most prescriptions cost about $35 and are filled the same day.

Dr. Nawas sends your prescription to any pharmacy you choose, with a GoodRx coupon code attached. Show the coupon from the free GoodRx app at pickup and you pay the coupon price instead of using insurance: for the medications we prescribe most, typically around $35, often less than a copay, and with no waiting for an insurance approval.

  • A coupon cannot be combined with insurance, including Medicare Part D. Ask which price is lower and use that one.
  • Prices differ between pharmacies, sometimes by half. The app shows today's price at each one.

Pay over time

Split the cost of any treatment into monthly payments.

Cherry is the financing service we partner with, for any treatment at any price. You apply in about a minute with a soft credit check that does not affect your credit score, and most people get an instant decision. Choose a plan, Cherry pays us, and you repay Cherry in fixed monthly payments.

Qualifying plans at ZN Dermatology carry 0% APR for three months. Longer plans, up to several years, are available with interest. There is no deferred interest, no penalty for paying early, and the total is shown before you accept.

Good to know

Questions patients ask.

Can I use my HSA or FSA?

Yes, for medical visits, biopsies, surgery and prescriptions. Cosmetic treatments are not eligible expenses. Your superbill doubles as the documentation your account administrator may ask for.

What if my plan denies my superbill claim?

Call the number on your card and ask why. The usual reasons are a deductible that is not yet met, a plan with no out-of-network benefits or a question about a code. For a coding question, message us through the patient portal (practice code VI49) and we will send a corrected superbill.

I have Medicare Advantage. Can I still come?

Yes. We are out of network with Medicare Advantage plans. With a PPO plan, most plans cover out-of-network care: we file the claim and you pay only your plan's share at the visit. With an HMO plan, out-of-network care is usually not covered unless the plan approves it first, so you would pay our published price. Call the number on your card before you book.

I have Medicare Part D. Can I still use the GoodRx coupon?

Yes, instead of Part D for that prescription, not together with it. Ask the pharmacist which price is lower. A coupon purchase does not count toward your Part D deductible.

Do you offer packages or in-house payment plans?

No. Each service has one published price and you pay only for what you have. To spread the cost over time, use Cherry.

Can I get my cost in writing before my visit?

Yes. Contact us and we will send you a treatment estimate before you come in. If you are paying for your care yourself, federal law also entitles you to a written Good Faith Estimate; the full notice is on our Good Faith Estimate page.

Why is there one published price for each service?

Because it is the real price. We do not carry the overhead of billing departments and insurer contracts, so each service has one published price whether you have commercial insurance and a superbill to submit, or neither. Medicare is the exception: Medicare sets the rate for Original Medicare, and a Medicare Advantage plan that covers your visit sets your share.

Still unsure what your visit will cost? Call us or message Dr. Nawas through the patient portal, and we will tell you before you book.
